Suvi’s Statues: Smelt

The first statue that made me consider what “ART” is.

It seems to also imply that they let you plop a 5.5 m bronze woman behind the World Trade Center in Ljubljana in SMELT building.  When built in 1993 it was the tallest building in the city at 75 m (250 feet), but has since been pushed to #2. When looking at Ljubljana from above, it has always served to locate my parents’ house more easily.

Here she is. “Atom Venus” by Janez Boljka. 5.5 metres of woman. Next time my camera might even make a circle around her. It seemed to be in awe and kept the distance. Even though she is easily the best eye-rest in this steely, grey, artificial, “modern” part of town.

And those who watch closer can see it: a nod to my fellow blogger. In the last photo the building has lost its S to leave only MELT. Because it does, the snow, every time. Somewhere else. 🙂

For Suvi’s Saturday Statues challenge

Even though I don’t like to combine challenges, this one screams curves. 🙂

Will post for WPC: Curves separately too.

Wow that’s an amazing statue and so true, it goes very well with curves for sure 😛 The link on my webpage is now working, to my relief, so you can add your post to the linkup finally! So sorry about the struggles! xx

    1. Oh, good that it’s working. I was walking around Roma all afternoon, but now I’ll post my link in your linkup. I’m glad you like my first contribution to your excellent challenge. Today I was thinking of you all day since Roma has a LOT of statues. 😀

I love it. She’s curved fersure. I wonder what atom that is. Looks busy, like compounds, to me…

    1. Glad to hear you love it, Joey. As for what atom, that’s on experts to say. Maybe she’s the missing particle. 😀

    1. Hm, Jenna, I think the question would be if your head is as small as well. Think not. Also, one gets away with plenty if one is 5.5 m tall.

      1. 5.5 meters does change the perspective on things, doesn’t it?

  4. Hahah, so I have my own statue? Or is it building? 😉 This statue is pretty cool though, with those mini planets just hanging there?!! Atoms or Venuses – both maybe?

    1. Hihih, SSW, if you want it, it’s yours. To me these golden balls look like accessories. So that she is not completely nude. I hope they are not weapons but I guess they might be if she get really upset.
