I’ve collected some images from my recent Slovenian two weeks that made my eyebrows shoot up for a variety of reasons. Let’s see what they are.
That’s a rare sight on my blog, right, right? At this student festival somebody knew I was coming. Thanks for the decor!
A rare block of flats that I really like. Dravlje, Ljubljana.
A rarely badly chosen supermarket wallpaper photo of the capital. I said to the cashier boy that they surely deserve something better to look at on the daily basis than this, seeing that they failed to install windows. He didn’t give any sign that he heard what I was saying.
A rare honest graffiti improvement: It used to say “Socialism is a disease.” In Slovenian it only takes changing half of the word to turn “disease” into “love”. Ljubljana.
A rarely expressed sentiment that many desire but few carry out: “Happily divorced.” As a marketing slogan no less. Seen in Bled. (The curious part is that the plural is used, not the dual which Slovenian language would use for a divorced couple. I think this group is talking about their own internal restructuring.)
A (not so) rare confusion: Do they want me to aim at the Bambi as well?? Camp Zaka, Bled.
Confusion continues around the corner: Now what?? Camp Zaka, Bled.
A rare swimmer on a covered day. (Off screen: followed by his daughter. Followed by bestia.) Lake Bled.
A rare (for a Tuscanian) display of mountains, shot from the speeding car. Father would know which mountains these are. Alenka too. ADD-IT: Father says: Stol and Begunjščica. If this is correct, I climbed the higher Stol! I’ll post photos from this climb one day.
A rare sprint that Bolt could never hope to win due to wrong species. Lake Zbilje.
A rare black and white duck on Lake Zbilje (judging from the fact that it was the only one in numerous company).
A rare front seat for bestia.
Kamniška Bistrica: A rare jaw-dropping beauty that Slovenians take for granted but it’s never been.
A (not at all) rare sight in Slovenia: red carnations on a shelf and greenness. Orel restaurant, Stahovica.
A rare display of species about to be devoured on a napkin. Orel restaurant, Stahovica.
So this must be the famous and rare condor soup out of Captain’s Grant Children!! When my uncle read this book, he was very afraid of this condor, so the next time his parents cooked liver dumpling soup, they told him that the condor was captured and turned into those dumplings. This restaurant is called Orel (“Eagle”, hence the eagle image on the plate). No relation. Just a mushroom soup. Promise, uncle!!
A rarely seen playground of the Children of the Corn.
Children of the Corn! AHAHAHA!
These are all great shots, I can’t believe they set those doors up for you! You lucky girl!
And Oh My Gosh, that beautiful lake photo — well that’s incredible!
Hihih, I knew somebody would get a kick out of it and I’m glad it was you, Joey! 😀 I keep having these door apparitions, I feel like in a mind trap! As for Lake Bled, more photos from there coming up one day soon. It’s one of Slovenia’s top 3 attractions.
Another place to add to my bucket list. At this rate I`m going to have to live 3 lives to see it all 😉
Like Joey and Dan, the lake and mountain shots made me go “oooh” and “aaah” 🙂
Thanks, Norm! Slovenia is a perfect one-week destination. You can do everything around here (well, skiing only in the winter, swimming in the sea only in the summer). But Lake Bled and the mountains are majestic in every season.
I saw Bled as well but what I cherrished the most was the east – more “rural” – part of Slovania. I will soon write my first post about monastery in Zice.
If you went to Slovania, then no wonder we couldn’t meet. 😉 But I’m glad you liked the rural Slovenia. Not often I visit it. Must take amore to this monastery one day.
Hahah! All of your image comments made me smile, I wouldn’t even know where to start MY commentary! 🙂 Will just summarize: great work, Manja!

Gori sta Stol in Begunjščica – če se prav spomnim, saj sem bil gori nazadnje pred 36 leti.
