Isn’t it nice that you can always count on Norm and Thursdays and doors? Just in time too, so that I can go in search of new ones. These are from the last roaming with uncle in May.

As I was reading this post, I was sure the first photo would be my favourite with its richness in apparent symbolism.
… but then I hit the plain wooden door with the stone walk-up surrounded by flowers (this seems to always be a favourite of mine). Then the very next one blew me away with bestia in front of the gate surrounded by decaying walls.
*sigh* your door posts always seem to take us on an European adventure 🙂

Hehe, Joanne, I like this effect. Yes, I know, Europeans, we have it easy. I just have to step outside and then so often I don’t even do this. 😉

I’m with Joanne: the one with the flowers going up the stairs is my favorite. The combination of door, stairs, and flowers is hard to beat.

Thanks, Janet. The town of Sovana is entirely in this way. Very much recommended!

All beautiful! You’d think I’d get bored of your beautiful Roman doors, but I do not. Love that set of doors up the stairs, lined with the boxes of roses and geraniums — that’s my fave here today.
— Although I love the double brass doorknobs and the gilded monastery swirls as well 🙂

Thank you, Joey. These are not Roman, though (unless you mean that ancient Romans built them within their empire :). They are all in southern Tuscany where I live, about 1.5 h from Roma.

Ah, I beg pardon — I had thought they went along with the flowers.

Thank you, Charles. I’m glad that I’ve included this one then, I like it too. Sovana is an OLD town and it looks like a movie set.

That first door is amazing. Of course you know that wooden doors and iron railings are also a favorite subject for me. Great collection!

Thank you, Dan! 🙂 You always find something for yourself, I like that. Did you see the two bridges in a recent post (A brave another world)? There are two photos with you in mind as well: of a stool and of how a bridge is fixed.

I need to look for that again. I’ve been in the road this week, catching up during meeting breaks, in between email.

That first photograph is very intriguing, Manja, and your dog is a-door-able.

Thank you, Jean. My uncle went into the monastery and almost came running out telling me there is a door inside I HAVE to see. 😀
