Thursday Doors, September 29

A few door images from Resljeva Street in the centre of Ljubljana, Slovenia, the first street my mother ever lived on.

ADD-IT: For the curious, here you can find the list of all Secession (Art Nouveau) buildings in Ljubljana. Of all the doors above, only no. 35 is on the list. The rest must be something else.

These are lovely – especially #5 and #15. The mix of wood and metal, and the carvings in arches above the doors: gorgeous artwork 🙂

Wow – beautiful doors! I love that last picture, and the caption you chose., it certainly does come together nicely. One thing, though. I thought if the horseshoe is hanging upside down, the luck runs out 🙂

    1. Wow, interesting about the horseshoe, I have never heard it mentioned that the position matters. And thank you! I’m waiting for mom to confirm if her family indeed lived on No. 35 when she was 5 years old. As I say in a comment above, it used to be a Railways-owned building and her grandfather was a railway worker.

Thanks for giving me the Slovenian version of “No” – I’ve added it! Was this your last Thurs Door post?
Beautiful doors and houses! Have to ask hubby who has extensively traveled in East. Eur. in the past, if he has been in Ljubljana.

    1. Thanks, Jesh. Yes, this is today’s post, but why would it be the last?

      2. Oh, good, you were asking if it was my most recent door post. I was thinking last as the final one, after which there is no more. 😀

Am an artist, so very much into my own world that I forget how others may take what I say, haha. Thanks for being kind about it:)

Both of these are huge winners! I like the 3-storey effect on the first door. Nice! I want one.

And the 2nd one just quietly oozes splendor and a fine pedigree without even trying.

    1. Thanks, Joanne! However, there are one gate and three doors on today’s photos. The last door is only featured once, it just looks similar to the one before last. Still, I’m glad they win. 🙂

Of course I had to go back and look again. Holy cow, you’re right! (as if there was any doubt 😉 ) They are sooo similar I had to go back and forth a few times to pick out the differences!

  10. Never been to Slovenia and have to admit my ignorance about the culture and history of that country but I just learned that they make beautiful doors so there must be a lot more beautiful things that I’m missing out on. Hope you share more of your country with us in future posts. 🙂

    1. 🙂 Thanks, Gordon. I’ve been sharing Slovenia on my blog quite heavily throughout and will continue. You just need to follow ‘Slovenia’ tag:

That’s a gorgeous street. I would love to have any of those doors as the door to my apartment building 🙂

    1. Thanks, Suvi! 🙂 Yesterday I found a link to all Art Nouveau buildings in Ljubljana. Will add the link to the post, for the interested. Strangely, only no. 35 is included in this list. The rest of my doors must be another period…
