Flaming flamingos

They seem so pink from afar. But when you zoom in, they are mostly white. And then one lifts his wing a little, and then you know. They say it’s from the shrimps they get their pink. Who knew.

I don’t say it often, but sometimes I could use a bigger lens. Sorry for the blurry distant fellows, but it is what it is. They like their privacy too much. (If you click on a photo, you’ll have them a bit closer.)

  1. Great pictures! It’s amazing how long flamingos are when they stretch themselves out while flying. It’s almost unreal.

I think the taller birds, the welcoming committee, are some kind of cranes. I almost want to say sandhill cranes, but they look too white. So, I’m not sure.

    1. Oh, thanks a lot, A&A! I’m clearly in a bird-spotting position and environment but far from being one. In the making though, I’m sure!

      1. 😀

As for the camera focusing on the wrong things, I totally get that pain. My camera likes to go out of focus, which can create some interesting shots. So, in all honesty, I can’t complain. 😀

    1. Thank you, Claudia, possibly I could come closer from the other side. I should investigate. Or upgrade.

      1. You could do justice to a fancy camera, no problem. You have a good eye and the camera is important to you. That’s what I think!

      2. Thank you. The camera is important to me as a framing and memory-recording tool. I have never even tried a fancy one out. My wish would be one that takes pictures the way my eye sees them.

      3. Yes. And that it’s not, that’s a sadness and a challenge.

      4. But truth be told, in this case I wouldn’t see the flamingos not nearly as close. 🙂

With or without a new lens, I love your flamingo photos 🙂 I’ve only ever seen flamingos once, and it was a thrill.

    1. Merci, Mamie! I wish it was a beaver! Rather it’s a nutria and it’s not very simpatico if you look at its face too closely.

  8. Lovely post! I didn’t know they had flaming flamingos in Italy, but why wouldn’t they if they have them in France, too! The birds probably don’t know which country they’re in… 😉😊

    1. Oh, SMSW, they are here, and they come every year at about the same time and spend the winter on the lagoon. I just hope hunters don’t go after them too. But just the fact that here is proverbial “south” for the birds, makes me feel great.

      1. Oh, I’m so jealous! You’re their winter vacation destination! 😎

Stunning lagoon and I am so jealous of your mammal shot. It may be his back but wow!

And your flamingos are clearly adult ones going by their colour. . . . .they get more pink as they get older. Wonderful shots.

    1. Thank you, Becky! 🙂 Here I found two more flamingo and animal posts from my first blog. I even have a photo of flamingos in flight! From far away but still. And there is also a nutria close-up. 🙂 Thank you for the follow and I shall stick close too.
