I posted images from Volterra before, but as it often happens, doors were saved from that post. Here is only the first part of them, all from the same street opposite the Castle which actually hosts the State Prison.
I had to keep my camera turned away from that, no photography allowed, no matter what a beautiful door that prison has. You will have to go and see for yourself.
The sun was slowly going, most of these doors were in the shade and I had to rescue them from obscurity in post-production, and yet it was nothing I could do but click. I love it when they lay a door-filled street like that, as if just for me. Nothing special but lived-in and cosy.

Oh my! All those wonderful doors into stone walls! The 2nd last one though is my favourite. It looks very small and narrow 🙂

Oh, yes, Joanne, it’s the stone wall that does it! Thanks, your favourite has my signature all over it. 😀

I noticed! Clever use of the signature 🙂

Thanks for sharing another wonderful collection this week 😀

OH WOW! I love when they roll out a street filled with doors for you, too! I love the small wooden blue green door with the ivy overhang. That is RIGHT up my alley! Beautiful collection!

Thanks, Joey. Italy is full of door streets indeed. For the door that you mention I was upset to see the photo was so badly lit and did what I could to make it postable. I love the ivy as well.

Don’t feel bad about the shadows, they’re a part of life and a lovely one, too. For instance, the door on the left of you site looks beautiful with the shadows. A castle as prison? Lovely outside at least. I don’t know which door is my favorite, but I know I love the stone buildings!

Oh, I do love the shadows, Janet, that’s why I’ve put that photo on the left of my site, I don’t like when a door is entirely in the shade and all light seems to be drained out of the image, as tends to happen in late afternoon. Thanks!

Another fine collection of doors. As usual, as I kept thinking that I had a favorite door, I scrolled down to find more and more interesting doors. I like the weathered wooden doors in the stone wall the best, but I can’t decide which one is my favorite. I’ll take one of each, please.

Yes, Dan, I’ve realised the same, that it’s not a collection of spectacular doors as such, but rather that every door adds to the whole. They are all on the same side of this narrow street, inside the same stone wall, and on the other side there is the prison.

Oh so I see, thanks for telling me! I used to be on Pinterest, I have an excellent door folder there, you’ll see, I just followed you. However, I don’t share my own photos there, for some reason. Pin away, just a little credit please, I commented there under my doors.

Great pics, as usual! 🙂 I’ll take number 51, please! But how can a prison be in a beautiful castle?! That’s not fair!

Thanks, SMSW. I love it how we all democratically choose our favourites every time. 😀 Imagine if we all lived in the same street behind favourite doors. (Ok, some will have to share the house.) Mine is 13. 🙂 As for the prison….. I don’t know…. Isn’t it even worse in a way to live in a beautiful surrounding but can’t go out? Yet.

Hmm, very philosophical, will have to think about it!

Love gate 21! Kind of amusing that the prison is housed in a castle:) Beautiful series -wish I could have gone with you:)

Fantastic collection! Your post processing work to save some of the images was done well; I didn’t find any image too dark, if anything it makes you look harder at the image to discover more details. Thanks for sharing!

They’re all beautiful, Manja, but my favourites are the two little doors with the ivy growing across the top.

Thank you, Jean. I’m privy to ivy too (wished to say ‘partial to ivy’ but this way rhymes. :D)
