Thursday Doors, November 10

A whole lot of Roma deo-door-ants to get rid of the bad smell.

Just a few observations on Election day (sorry, door lovers, I’ll be brief, I just don’t wish to write a separate post for this):

  1. There were a whole lot of journalists, newscasters and reporters drinking alcohol on air that day. I remember when my father, back when he was on TV, had a plan to drink live and then do the alco-test, but he was told that it was illegal. Probably considering the size of him the test would be negative and the kids would get a wrong impression. What does a horde of public personas getting drunk in prime time say to the nation (except in California where they can now roll them up and pass them – I wonder if anybody did that live on TV)?
  2. There were a whole lot of people at a loss how to break the news to their children. I find this really touching, but a sign of denial as well – obviously American people indeed live divided existence as it is. There is one half, and then there are the Others. (No matter how there were more of those who voted for her. I refuse to study American election system because it only pisses me off, but – really?? The last time I was similarly pissed off was when Bush won in Florida. That time more people voted against him too. These things cause the disturbance in the force.)
  3. I ask together with these parents, and the entire world: Where are all these people who voted for Trump? Were they hiding under the bush and suddenly stepped up to show their displeasure? Do they blog? Do they have any reason to vote for him other than rock the boat? How pissed off will they be when they realise it was all pre-election posing and he only made himself sound just like them in order to deploy them? And lastly: like some who voted for Brexit said the next day – are they sorry? Were they only joking too? Because frankly, that’s the only logical explanation.

Other than that, welcome to Italy!

All these twenty door images were taken on a single stroll in Roma that started behind Il Vittoriano, continued along Via del Corso, across Piazza di Pietra, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Farnese, and finished at the French Consulate on Via Giulia. Click on the first photo, stroll along and at the very end please find a doorscursion idea.

We’ll see how many of those who said they would pack up and leave end up coming to Canada like they promised. Stay tuned I’m planning a “Welcome to Canada” post for all our expected new arrivals 😉
As for those who voted for him, what the marketers/strategists have figured out is that in a two party system you don’t have to be better than your opponent or even know what you are doing, you just have to convince the electorate that your opponent is more evil than you are. He’s a good salesman and a better liar than her, so on that front he succeeded. All I can say is, I hope you enjoy your snake oil America because you just bought a four-year supply.
I’ll take my democracy in a multi-party parliamentary style please; it forces the extreme factions to tone it down and compromise.
*Stepping down from his soapbox* Oh yeah this post was about doors 😀
And some lovely ones you’ve shared with us! Via dei Baullari and Via dell Colonnelle are my favourites – rich dark wood, lovely metal kickplates, what’s not to love?

    1. Thanks, Norm, for your opinion too. I have such a bad feeling that now the bad guys will be able to do all they wish, pass all the bad laws, everything that was impossible before, because he just couldn’t care less. He did his by winning. I hope he goes to space next, and soon too.

I am a Trump supporter and have been since the beginning. If you want to have a serious discussion, let me know. I am a regular blogger, a retired data processing consultant and now science fiction author. I have valid opinions and reasons for those opinions. Please don’t make assumptions about the 50+ million Americans who voted for Trump. He is not a monster. He really cares for America and our Republic. We are not a democracy, we are a republic. I can explain that and why the founders created a republic in the first place if anyone is interested. When you trash Trump and all of his supporters, you are trashing me as well. Sorry, but I just had to get that off my chest.

    1. Ok, ok, Charles, I’m glad you wrote this. At least now I know one. I’m not trashing anybody, except the man himself. He is truly abominable, sorry to say, and I cannot comprehend how anybody who thinks with own head could wish to merely watch and listen to him for the next four years, let alone everything else. I cannot stand him as a human being. I don’t know if you wish to have a conversation with me after this. For me, he is not a person who can inspire in a positive way, neither is his Slovenian wife. (My fellow Slovenians are so happy for this reason.) Money-grabbing will never inspire me. And there is nothing else about him. He has been lying to people, putting them down, misleading them, and I see it in his eyes, I don’t need no analysts. He reeks. That’s why the entire world is so upset.

I’m sure you have your reasons for voting for him just as I have for hating him. If you feel like it, you can give them here. I’d like to know how he is good.

  3. Oh, lovely Roma! Thanks for taking me to Italy! ❤ As for the election, it's disgusting that money really can buy you anything.

    1. I think this is my biggest problem too. In my socialist upbringing we learnt to distrust and disrespect everybody who had only money. It’s only compensation for everything else.

Am a Dutch citizen, so this is different for me. Most of it was battling my friends in Holland who have the limited info of the media. The latter being biased and one sided.
.I love the doors you posted!

Another episode of ridiculously gorgeous doors! Wow the doors there are GRAND! I’m with Norm, kickplates and symmetry. Yes ma’am!

I, too, would enjoy having a private conversation with you to answer your questions. I’ve had a few of my foreign friends ask me about it. You know where to find me.

    1. Thank you, Joey. Rome is grand indeed. And I’m going back there in a couple of hours. Message sent to your mail, hopefully.

  7. Manja, I too am a Trump supporter and it amazes me that people who do not live here know how we should vote. You only know, I believe, what you hear from the media. If you lived here and saw the entire picture you might think differently. I do not live anywhere other than in the US and would never offer my opinion on how you should live or vote in your country. I am a university educated, religious, woman and mother, who can make my own decisions.

    1. Ok, Cady, glad to know. So few step up and own it. I’ll form my opinion by merely looking and listening to him, it suffices. An American friend of mine had asked me who to vote for, and I told her that life would be hard in any case because the division of the people was a fact, but at least you should spare the world. You didn’t. Now let’s stick to gardens and doors because we all need them.

Lovely doors today. I particularly like the arched doors with the iron details. I think I’ll hang here in the States. We can endure, maybe we can even make some good of the mess we’re in.
