PJ in Ljubljana by night

Yesterday’s concert of Perpetuum Jazzile in the centre of Ljubljana was a real treat.

We all know by now that Pearl Jam is my favourite band, and it’s only logical that I’ll love every next PJ that comes around, such as PJ Harvey. Or Perpetuum Jazzile, Slovenian vocal orchestra, which has evolved to great heights in the recent years following their hit version of “Africa” by Toto, travelling all over the world and performing in a Chinese opera house and Disneyworld in Paris.

Yesterday’s concert was to round up the year in which Ljubljana reigned as the European Green Capital, which I’ve mentioned on this blog already.

I was blown away by the progress they made regarding presentation, light, choreography and consistency. My highlight was the black and red-lit “Uprising”, a wicked Muse cover. I highly enjoyed also “Balkan Pulp”, their take on Pulp Fiction soundtrack, “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, a hilarious mix of songs in German which makes “99 Luftballons” by Nena and a recent Eurovision winner “Satellite” by Lena sound like one song, and an Earth, Wind and Fire medley.

Here is a Slovenian song for you – hugely popular “Oberkrainer” anthem “Na Golici” by Avsenik brothers. Theirs is the only version I can stomach. 😀
