Thursday Doors, January 19 2017

Let’s try to not see too much symbolism in these dark doors before us, va bene?

These atmospheric photos were all taken in one night in one street, Viale di Trastevere in Rome. They make us all colour-blind, not able to see clearly and feel complicit.

Do you want more? There is the second part of night doors waiting for when it’s necessary again. I hope for never, but wouldn’t count on it. Have a good Friday ahead.

The graffiti covered doors are a little more creepy, but other wise, I like the way doors look at night, It’s their moment to shine. It’s when they are doing their most important job. It’s like they’re telling the world “I’m strong, I got this.”

    1. Glad to hear that, Dan. I appreciate this sentiment. I guess I’d just need a bit better night shooting equipment to bring this point across. All I see is creepy.

I love how you cpatured so many different angles and vibes… the green electric Fleur Garden was my fav… and the grafitti always amazes me when it shows up in random places… and here we have such wonderful old doors – marked up! tsk tsk tsk

    1. Thank you, Prior. True, this area is especially full of graffiti. I like it when there is something funny or poignant or artistic written or drawn. But just signing names is completely off. It’s like peeing.

  5. I didn’t think they looked creepy, but the third one amuses me as it looks more than a little like a face. 🙂

  6. Nice selection of doors. I like the last two photographs, Manja. Great piece of art in that last one and the shadows on the second last one are very atmospheric.

    1. Yes, Jean, I think I thought the same and put them at the end for this reason. 🙂 Thank you!

That last bit of graffiti is a piece of art in itself!

    1. Thank you, Jan, I think so too. It moves when I look at it. Also – it has nothing to do with doors. 😀

    1. Oh, Vicky, you’re there right now? Or coming over? Go to this restaurant Ostaria Pucci, a bit pricey but authentic Roman food.

    1. Thanks, Joey. There is the second part in waiting. I’m so used to seeing my photos more or less well lit, and these look like stills from a bad horror movie.

  12. The golden glow in the photos of doors in the night shots look cool. The last two photos with the mottled burnt orange paint and dark woman are a bit creepy. Nice work!

    1. Thank you, Donna! I see creepy, blurry and colourless. 😀 But I guess there is atmosphere too.
