WPC: Graceful staircase

The Ljubljana “Skyscraper” staircase was the most graceful thing I’ve photographed recently.

But first the last week on my blog. There were:

And now let’s have a look at a couple of art déco staircases inside the “Nebotičnik”, or Skyscraper, built in 1933 and for 60 years the tallest building in Slovenia. Here it is in an old photo I found online (just because I didn’t take a photo of it myself for some reason):

The next time we will take a look from its terrace, but today just the staircase (well, there are two).

Wow is right. At first I thought it was similar to the staircase at the AGO here in Toronto but the one in the skyscraper is in a class of it’s own.

Love the shots but all that walking in circles would make me dizzy 😉

    1. Thank you, Norm. I was dizzy a little bit, but much more overwhelmed by what I was seeing.

I’m dizzy! Those are crazy staircases. Did you have to take anti-nausea medication before ascending/descending? Beautiful photos as always, MMM.

    1. Thanks, Susanne. It was nothing like standing at the mountain top without a fence – that gets to me. Here there was the fence and I had my camera and I was seeing wonderful stuff. But I’m surprised I didn’t look up on the descent at all… I think the vortex was eating me up.

Gorgeous stuff. Too many of them and my vertigo kicks in, but I love the nautilus look to them, almost seems natural, too beautiful to be manmade.

I love spiral staircases and know how difficult they are to photograph. Great capture!

    1. Thank you, Joanne. This was a highlight of my stay, for sure. One would say, it’s just a staircase. But it made me feel elated.

I know exactly what you’re saying.
We stayed once in a hotel in Sweden that had a narrow spiral staircase. Since we tend to shun elevators whenever we can, we tore up and down those stairs several times a day. I loved it – it was a mini-adventure each time and I have at least a dozen really bad photos of it.
And each time we popped out of the staircase, the hotel staff would look at us like we were insane 🙂

  12. Similar red railings can be found in Ljubljana’s castle …

Fantastic! Though admittedly, if I had to descend that staircase, I’d hold on to the railing for dear life! And not look down!

    1. Thank you! But when you walk down, it’s not a bad feeling at all, as long as you don’t look into the hole. 😀
