    The one lasting impression we had of Italy from driving around is their propensity to go THROUGH things … mostly mountains. This however is most unusual … it looks like a very old tunnel built through the earth. Is that right? This is the kind of thing I love to discover and explore!

They are called Via Cava and there is a whole system of them. They connect towns of Etruscan heritage. I haven’t studied them much yet. One time we wished to walk between two towns using one of them but we missed the correct starting point. 😀 Some are also closed for being too dangerous. Well, we found this one instead.
