Thursday Doors, March 2 2017

Šmartno is about to take over the race for the town with the most posted doors per capita.

This is only the first post of three with doors from this tiny but magnificently restored village in Goriška Brda region, called “Slovenian Tuscany”. By all means visit-worthy, also but not only because this is wine-growing territory. Since we forgot to taste any, we will have to return.

Your doors are so neat and tidy, square and clean, compared to my wrecks.

    1. Hahha, Ian, well, it certainly depends where you are. This village’s restoration was funded by the European Union. In this way it’s not so hard. But I find door wrecks just as compelling. Your green one is a beauty.

A lovely mixture of old and new, personally I hanker over the old!

  3. If you didn’t get to taste any wine, you’ll definitely have to go back. Restoration explains why the doors look different from what I would have expected. But for now, I’ll just take a seat at the little table in the last shot and relax.

    1. Thank you, Janet. In this photo the sun indeed appears quite inviting but in fact it was chilly so we preferred going inside. Not for wine but hot chocolate and cake.

I’m sure Norm appreciates your dedication, but you remembered door photos but forgot wine tasting ??? I don’t know about that… They are cool doors, though.

    1. Hehe, thanks, Dan. Hot chocolate and cake not good enough? And I could never, ever forget doors.

It’s not hard to notice how well restored everything is, much of it almost looks brand new. You found some wonderful doors though.
When you go back for the wine, I’ll want a full report 🙂

    1. Thanks, Norm. 🙂 I won’t need to go back so soon for doors, I’ve got enough of them for two more posts. As for the wine, I think we were overwhelmed and not sure where we should go, looking at the map with a long list of wine producers in the region.

The green door catches my attention most – they are all beautiful though. Since it’s called the Slovenian Tuscany, I’ll have to visit there too when in the neighborhood:):) Like you,’ I’ll forget about the wine, but I would paint there!

    1. Thanks, Jesh! Well, the actual Tuscany is not so close at all (400 km is not such a big deal either), just the scenery is similar. Welcome in any case, it’s perfect for painting.

  10. Always when we r looking at the doors we r imagining who is living behind of them.. by the way, I’m probably going to steal one of them from you lol 😂 for my post. But I’ll link to you/your post then :)) ✌️ thx for sharing

    1. I have a feeling that in this town many doors have not a soul behind them. It’s a model village, in a way, but I’d guess not many old settlers still live here. So I don’t think they would mind much if you steal one door. 😀 And I know that you’ll link, you always do. Be their guest!
