WPC: Sur+prize

It’s best if you take everything as a surprise. After all, If you think about it – it is.

I like to say that I don’t have any sense of direction because it’s good to keep getting surprised about where you are. Similarly, I’d never wish or even pay to know what the future holds. Especially since everywhere you look there are signs that the best future is behind us yet.

Before we check out a surprising destination from last weekend and since I was strolling around instead of doing my regular weekly recap, here is a look back at the last two weeks on my blog. There were:

• twenty of the densest and most concentrated photos from Piran on Slovenian coast;
• a silent non-Catholic Roman angel from behind;
• a collection of spring plants and balconies from Rome’s Monteverde;
• dog, moon and minestrone with the visitor;
• surprising doors of Rome’s Non-Catholic Cemetery;
• a photo per month for the fourth birthday of my furry companion;
• silent Sunday security squared;
• twenty colourful images from last week’s Maremma day trips including one of a bikini;
• doors from the outside and on the inside of the magnificent Siena Cathedral;
• and yesterday I celebrated four years in Tuscany by way of a sunset and no socks.

And now a city that I’d never ever choose for a Saturday trip destination. And yet when I asked amore where he’d like to go, this is what he suggested and far be it from me to counter it, especially since he usually prefers to catch up on his sleep on weekends. He passes it daily on his commute to work and he says he likes the sea there.

It’s an old city by name and age, and yet modern, clean and orderly. It has a major port with departures to Corsica and Sardinia and even Algeria, and two thermal power stations. It is called Civitavecchia.

Quite a leap from my usual towns of Tuscany and not one I’d choose for home, but a welcome change of pace, if only for one afternoon.
