WPC: This is Earth calling

I’m going to green you up now.

When I started to collect ideas for my Italian trip list (it’s a piece of art, with times required to reach destinations and different colours indicating directions), I found a photographer on Facebook who posted beautiful images marked “Crete Senesi”. Google Maps didn’t recognise it as a place name. Then Martina from City Break told me where it was, between Asciano and Buonconvento south of Siena.

After strolling around Siena for most of the day, I set my phone’s satellite to Site Transitoire, which is apparently a man-made, artistic arch on a hill thereabouts. The phone was tired from the long day, refused to charge and died about 20 minutes before we reached it. No arches or indications were in sight. It was not even shown on an old-school map of Tuscany which I have in the car just in case. So no go. If you wish to see it before I do – and I will – here it is.

But saying that the drive was in vain would be seriously silly. Just look at all that. And we haven’t even reached Asciano yet so this is not strictly Crete Senesi. Always leave something for the next time, they say. Even though I doubt that it looks like this all year around.
