Visitors come here and say they are dieting.
At first glance it seems healthy. But actually Italy wishes to seduce you at every step. These are the first things you see.

Eye spy, love speak, Volkswagen, or this is how we take word power back.
It all depends on how you define dieting. A *mediterranean diet* is said to be very healthy… You won’t become obese if you leave out the panna cotta and the pasta. And what really puts me off is the ad for the strawberries. It seems to advertise porn rather than fruit. I don’t think it would work in other countries.

😀 There is a reason why I’m in Italy. Elsewhere they use porn to advertise everything. But I know, Italians are regularly among the top three healthiest nations. Still, if you go on a diet in Italy, they merely cut your pasta in half. 😀

Slovenian or Italian?

It’s an Italian word and it means gluttonous. 😀

I should try to remember it for future reference 😋

I wouldn’t mind being seduced by these veggies and fruit. The problem for me is all the divine pasta and pizza.. not to mention dessert!! And wine.

Hey, Suvi, am just reading about your saunas. Haven’t felt one on my skin yet. Neither that birch branch! 😉 Yes, we have all here that you mention, and more. Not to mention cooked lunch and then dinner too, separately. In Slovenia we tend to combine them often, or heat what remains.

The zucchini flowers + mozzarella + anchovies sound very yummy. Must try it.

Yes, Susi, do it! 🙂 Just don’t forget to roll them in flour and water (some use beer instead) before frying.

My Italian grandmother died when I was only 10 years old, but I remember her making zucchini flowers every summer. She didn’t stuff her’s though. They were battered, fried then topped with parmesan while still hot. I LOVED them. The stuffed version sounds wonderful too.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve had that treat. Maybe I need to return to Italy in spring 😉

Oh yes, yes, yes, return! If you can tear yourself from your Canada and the trail for a while… I’ve only had this version but I’m sure they are good in every case. Which region did she stem from?

My grandparents came from Calabria, a small town outside of Cozensa. My father was born there and came to Canada in 1921 when he was 9 years old.
In 2013 we went to visit Calabria for the first time. All it did was pique my desire to return!! I remember a small restaurant where we had lunch. The smells were EXACTLY like I remembered my grandmother’s kitchen. I felt like I had finally arrived *home* 🙂

Ohhh, sounds just right. 🙂 i love those memory scents. Calabria is far from me, well, relatively speaking. But I will venture more to the south sooner or later. I hope to see you there. 🙂

What about the cheese counter then?!

Hihi, what do you mean, Fabrizio? The cheese counter is heavily laid too and we always have some. Except when we make gnocchi con quattro formaggi, then we have four. 🙂 Do you like cheese?

If there’s one thing I miss is indeed the cheese counter at my Coop! 20 meters only of different toma and maccagno… Aaah!

I have never heard of these two, and amore is shaking his head too… will look out for them.

It’s alpine stuff, don’t think it makes it south of the Appennini.

That’s a wicked way to diet! 😛
I was drawn to your site by your blog title “The Mexi Movie” (without realising that it is actually a pun on your name). The title of your post also has great allusions to a film that I much enjoyed. 🙂

Just yesterday I realised I need to see it again, that film. And I’m glad you were drawn. 🙂

I’ll be seduced by Italian food any day – if it’s the real McCoy. Alas, not easy to find in my neck of the wood where greasy pizza and over cooked pasta drenched in creamy sauces passes for ‘Italian’

Oh yes, Freddy, they are very particular over here about their recipes. And, Italy is a highly hedonistic country. Thank you for what appears to be your first comment and welcome to my blog. 🙂
