WPC: Buddies and friends

In the last few months these were my friends.

Thank you all, bloggers and other onliners, for adding humanity to my daily existence. As you can see, I sorely need it. Even though Bestia performs a variety of roles, as you will see.

There is another kind of friends which one has to approach with caution, namely false friends. Some hilarity ensues (sis found it online, no credit). As if you weren’t wary of all those Slavic languages enough. 😀

That was a funny video! I was always jealous of my Slavic friends, because they are able to understand (on a various level, of course) a lot of languages. My Slowakian, Slovenian and Bulgarian friends at Uni could substitute German words with their own and they still understood each other. My Hungarian language is so unpractical – it can’t be used for anything other than to speak Hungarian.

    1. Oh, right, Ada! I’ve never thought of that… You must feel quite isolated. Isn’t there some slight relation to Finnish language? Or Ungaro-Finnish was the mother language of all? (I should look into this matter before I speak but we’re on my blog, not in class.) 😉

Well, there is this theory of the one common Finn-Ugor language family that may have existed like 6000 years ago but it has never been proven 100%. There are a lot of similarities in Finnish and Hungarian grammar and there are some other small ethnicities that are considered familiar like samoyed or mari but we do not understand each other. There is not a single other nation on Earth that understands Hungarian and vice versa. It’s a useless language from the practical point of view.

      2. Oh, yes, that’s what I meant. And so you must really appreciate each other that much more…

Hahhahaha! Brotherly love is unfortunately not what makes Hungarians famous. We have a quote that translates roughly “man is man’s wolf” – that’s describes our mentality quite well. It’s a pity.

      4. Yeah, Slovenians have the same proverb. We might speak differently but we are neighbours after all. 😉

    1. Hihihih, I know, SMSW, you’d even go to the vet for gelato! 😉 And yes, what a life I have: yesterday I spent in Rome with three new American friends (I only knew one in the internet way before). It’s amazing how much you can pack into one day.

    1. Oh, Lex, they are. They show just the kind of enthusiasm you wish your friends would. And they are grateful too.
