WPC: Mind the bridge

There is a thing I do that people in my car must expect. When I see something, I swerve to the right.

This is what I did when I saw the scene on the left. It was hot, so I left the car running and my family and bestia enjoying the relative coolness, while I rushed out for a mini bridgescursion.

On the day before my birthday in May we were returning from Torri near Siena towards the Abbey of San Galgano. If I knew a bridge was approaching, I wouldn’t be half as excited. But sometimes it’s best not to have an agenda.

The bridge is clearly meant to be crossed (by people and possibly animals), since the path continues on the other side with some signs next to it. But I didn’t wish to make them wait in the car too long (hmmm, either that or the bridge didn’t look very crossable to me, what with the lack of fence and its thin stony surface).

Before we have a look, here is what my blog provided in the past week. There were:

• a  Florentine “Delta” challenge with one of the most drastic transitions there is;
• my father’s birthday in images from his last visit;
• a reblogged post from my first blog involving “Minority Report” and a broken vase;
• Thursday Doors from Siena in April;
• a colourful collection of good and not so good things that have come true even though I didn’t see them coming.

And now here is Pia’s Bridge. This is how it goes: sometimes you find something – an old, pre-Dante Roman bridge – without searching, and sometimes you search for a damn scene from the Mulino Bianco (“White Mill”) brand label without finding it (it was not our idea – a local shop-owner said we must go there, I bet he is paid for it). Oh well, something must remain for the next time.

What I saw from the car that catapulted me out.

Playing around.

Must be a plant in the foreground, they say.

Not so very much safe-looking.

I still climbed it.

But didn’t cross it.

Another photographer was there at the same time, I bet she took a photo of me on the bridge, and then she didn’t wish to follow so that I could take one too.

This is how I left them in the car. Ponte della Pia then, good to know. We’ll be passing it again sooner or later.
