Today’s doors from the south of Slovenia come with a lunch and a view.

I remember well when my friend Aleš – who together with his Mihela, one of my two best university buddies, became a parent half a year ago – posted the door of his family tourist farm on Facebook. I promised him to come and take a photo of it.

Then he posted trout.

Then he posted the prettiest table with the view, and that’s when I booked: Tourist farm “Magovac”, Sunday lunch, 5 to 6 persons and one dog.

The location (Dolenjska region south of Ljubljana), the atmosphere, the food, and last but not least, the doors – I think we have the venue for our Thursday Doors conference.

The name of the village and the river is the same – Krka. Its two sources are nearby – we had a look and I’ll post photos from there one day. It’s teeming with trout and the last time I was swimming in it years ago, it was good enough to drink.

Many doors were right there, attached to the house, and some I found when I had a stroll around. Welcome!

      2. Oh, yes, most excellent. This means “home on Komna”. I was up there several times and descended down or climbed up in two ways: by a winding road with many turns or via “Komarča”, a steep but quick route. I wonder how you did it. 🙂

hahaha it was not quick – it was January and snowbound! is the steep route a path through the forest people do on langlafting type skis from a place beginning with I?

      4. Hm… langlafting I don’t know what is. I was never up in the winter. Place on I – all my family is thinking right now, coming up with nothing. 😀 But I’d say through the forest is the long path. And yes, I guess you can ski down there.

      6. Ohh, Ukanc is beautiful but it’s down, beside Bohinj lake. 🙂 I might go there in two days. I’m glad you have lovely memories after all this time.

  6. Beautiful historical houses, spectacular views and that trout! Is this region reachable is public transportation? I’m researching day tripping options from Lj. That gelato invite sealed the deal. So I’m coming back. Hopefully next year. Btw, clicked every single photo 🙂

    1. Hahha, good to hear, Sunny Days. 😀 Sure, it’s reachable by bus, as are most Slovenian towns. Bus network is great. You will never run out of day trips. Usually I’m in Slovenia in August, this year I came earlier for the party. However, this is also the most crowded and hottest month.

  7. Great doors and I love that first shot. There are some beautiful surrounds with some of those doors, too.

Great shots I can feel summer right through your lens. Any time you show me a nicely carved wooden door you’re going to get me to stop and take notice – you have a few of those in this collection.

So many great doors and views of beautiful countryside – which, quite frankly, I’m coming to expect from you 🙂
However, my favourite is the one with the grapes in the foreground and all the wood stacked in the background. The composition of this photo just really speaks to me!

    1. Thanks, Joanne. I’m glad you like the one with the grapes. Is that a door on the floor lying down in your opinion? Somebody knew I was coming? 😉 Also, for some reason this comment went to spam. I’m glad I had a look there.

        hehehe! I’ve been spammed 😉

I couldn’t tell whether it was a door or not. I just really liked the way all the wood was neatly stacked. It appealed to my OCD 😉
