Thursday Doors, August 31 2017

Today, with Joey at the Thursday Doors hosting position, we shall be in flowers. And pots and plants.

I don’t know about you, but Slovenians, when they get drunk, claim to be “in flowers”. No, I’m not drunk, merely slightly euphoric.

The reason for that and for a slightly late posting is the first Slovenian basketball team win. It’s only the first game and only European championships, but I know they wish to win it, primarily Goran Dragić and Luka Dončić. NBA followers know all about the former, and Real Madrid fans have embraced the latter. Where are the times when the local crowds cheered “NBA! NBA!” at every effective move? Now in the NBA they can cheer Slovenia! (Well…)

But this is the day of the doors and here they are, nineteen Italian and one Slovenian door, accompanied by flowers because Joey likes that.

And because it’s so well put and I know Joey loves it too, the poem of the moment. Take care and stay safe.

Good Bones
by Maggie Smith

Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.

And these are some who did it.

    1. Thanks, Liz, and I can say likewise. Some of these are very old, three or four years, taken with my first camera. I keep a door folder and sooner or later they will all get their chance. And when you return, we’ll take some more.

    1. Ahh, I’m so glad you enjoy my doors. I’ve been posting them regularly every Thursday for more than two years, most of them from Tuscany where I live. Thank you for the follow, I found where to follow you too (I think).

Hi M-cubed- I really liked the culture rich post here.. 🙂
and of all the shots you gave us….
the one that stood out to me was the one with the gate and the golden lock.
It had such a contrasting feel – the steel and the colorful flowers…

  9. Most beautifully placed trash bag ever! 😉 Btw, is there some kind of door competition going on with Italians?? Every door being cuter than the previous one 😋

    1. SMSW, that’s most certainly the impression. But I think they are just so stylish from birth. Imagine how a door lover “suffers” around here. In unrelated news, congratulations to Finnish basketball team for the victory against France. 😮 Now Slovenia is so afraid for tomorrow! 😉

We have an expression here for when too much wine has been drunk: I`m in my cups. Like Joey, I can`t pick a favourite. They are all beautiful and oh so romantic.
