This week we are back to normal. Norm is here, Slovenia is the basketball champion of Europe, and here are some normal doors from Rome.
All of these were taken in the same territory, the Monteverde district of Rome around the street Via Folco Portinari which is my base camp when I’m in Rome: the first seven around Christmas, the last seven this weekend after The Snow Melts Somewhere said she would like some, and those in between in the summer.
Most of these are normal houses of normal Romans (with a shop, a restaurant and an ass thrown in). The featured one always makes my heart sing when I pass it. It’s green and flowery at the same time. Just as we like them. And the last one screams Italy. Benvenuti!

Yes, in Paris it’s easy to get blasé about carved stone doorways and ancient carriage doors ten feet tall!

What a collection! If those are the doors where the regular folk live I’m not sure I could handle the really fancy stuff – wow!
Any of the ones with natural unpainted wood had me drooling – gorgeous stuff 🙂

Thanks, Norm. Most of these are not protected from the street, is what I meant. They belong to no villas. True – Italy has a high standard, it’s obvious.

Such a beautiful place with doors to die for. I wish these were the “normal” doors in my neck of the woods. California doors for the most part have little character unless you go to a mission, a church, or maybe a winery. So, I always look forward to seeing your selections. Congrats to Slovenia!!

Love your doors as always! I must ask if your European rules of basketball are the same as the states? My daughter attends KU where the rules of basketball originate and are quite the “Item on Display”. Must make note to capture that pic 😉

Ohh, you mean to say that the original rules still apply? 😮 Surely not, at least the 3-pointer was invented in the meantime. At least in Europe it didn’t exist when I played in school in the 70’s. There are some differences how they play here and there: each quarter is only 10 minutes long over here (there 12, right?), and each player can only make 5 personal fouls (there 6?). Anyway, we can and do play against each other. 🙂 For this winning Slovenian team they say they play like an NBA team: fast, strong and furious. And thanks!

Wow! That was an expensive score but good for him and the University.
