Calling colours

If you look at the main page of my blog, you will notice that things have been a bit lacklustre lately. Time to call in the colours.

Lest we (this is royal we, meaning I) forget: I need only to look up and it’s symphony.

This is how the daily drive home from the railway station where I fetch amore can look like. Who wouldn’t wish to come home to that?

This was about two weeks ago when I ventured to the beach. Okay, nature did most of it, but I knew it back when I got it: this Nikon is an artist in hiding.

DSCN9991 (1280 x 949)

And all this below the sky provided one evening ten days ago. I can only say thank you.

The best part is that this is how it really was, only better, because it was live and all around me. What I mean is that these photos are edited only very slightly. Nothing I tried proved better than nature intended.

The photos view best in full screen mode on flickr, just click on the first. Sorry about that, I preferred WordPress gallery too. I need to preserve space though, or we will come to the end to soon. That might be what nature intended too, but the line must be drawn somewhere.

Welcome to nature’s gallery in Maremma, the south of Tuscany, where stations stop, let alone trains.

      1. Ugh. You sound like the two of you are in a pickle, as they say. It is hard to be sick and have someone to look after you; not good is having both people sick at one time! I hope for healing soon and getting your strength back.

    1. Thank you, Deborah. I was quite floored at the result. Somehow I didn’t think this camera was such a painter.

When the violets roar at the sun
    they’ll set us free.

and they’ve got us in their cage

yes, and am so glad I do. I saw some sunsets taken with the other camera comparable to mine and it put light distortions on the image. the Nikon has never done that to me.

I have to adjust the white balance depending on the sky, overcast or sunny. it takes a couple tries to get that right sometimes, but you can usually get the settings just right to pick up what you are seeing. I try to get them as accurate as possible because it is plenty good enough the way it is. I can see that in yours too. Most believable.

you have beautiful sunsets and pictures. no surprise to me took them with a Nikon.

      2. Right… I have heard of adjusting the white balance, however, my Nikon is the basic point-and-shoot, can it do that? (Coolpix) I really just click. 😀 Thank you for your praise!

i don’t know for sure about the coolpix. on mine it is in the picture options and on the shooting info screen.

there is also the auto setting for white balance which gets it right most of the time. when the sky it darker though it does not get the colors right all the time so I set it.

your camera appears to do it fine. it is mainly near dark when I have to play with it. I try to keep taking pictures in the dark. overcast days can be tricky too. I mainly use just one setting though for most of the sunsets.

your camera did it perfectly it looks like to me. the sunset in the first picture is awesome too. those color combinations are quite unique. I can’t say I have seen that exact combo before with the understated intensity. that was really an awesome sunset from your pictures, as you know.

there is never an end to what can be seen in sunsets I guess, even though they are happening continuously around the world all the time.

      4. Thank you for all this! I’m quite happy with my camera, except the zoom is a bit short and there are not many manual settings to play around. I don’t like the preset dusk/dawn setting because it turns everything purple. At nighttime and dusk it doesn’t perform very well but I’m trying. All in all – happy!

those presets sound like they have to do with white balance some. that is what it does, changes the tones of the picture.

I remember the first night I started playing with it. there was a red strip on the horizon still and it kept coming out as yellowish orange on the pics. I tried lots of things and could not get it right. finally I started playing with white balance and went through all those settings to find the one that worked.

there are about 8 wb settings on mine. I mainly use 1 and sometimes use 4 different ones including auto when I cannot figure it out.

Sunsets can be tricky. there is so much going on with color and light. my camera gets it right most of the time but now and then needs a little help with the darker shots.

I still have not done time exposures much. some day I hope to work with that when i have some time. haha.

good talking with you. time to get ready for sunset here. looks like it may be a good one too. enjoy.
