I love my doors. I love my sister. I love my gelato. I love my dog. I love Siena. Sometimes it all comes together.

I love Thursday Doors, and yet I am so behind in going through yours. I have months worth of door links saved. I know that you don’t but don’t worry. Eventually I’ll visit you all.

In the meantime, the door image that most impressed me recently was due to fab Fabrizio from Are we there yet? It might be from Pienza or Montalcino, evidence is inconclusive. (ADD-IT: He says that it’s Pienza Cathedral’s labyrinth.) Let’s see if he makes his own door post one of these days.

I remember the first time I came to Siena. I felt sucked in right away. It felt out of time somehow, as if the town didn’t know that centuries had passed and there were different times now and you couldn’t be that up and down and curvy and raw sienna coloured.

I entered an ancient looking shop and bought some bread in passable Italian to distinguish myself from tourists and shared it with bestia. And yet I didn’t mind the hordes, for the first time. I felt the town beneath and knew it was old and wise enough to be bothered by visitors not in the slightest.

These photos are from April, the third and last time I was there. The third time you realise that the doors don’t just look the same but actually are. Following four door posts (two from the first two visits and two from the last one including Cathedral doors), today’s 20 images exhaust my Siena doors.

A different kind of door in the Siena Cathedral. I didn’t go down there. Why? Now I need to go back.

This time I didn’t have to buy any bread. With sister we came prepared with directions to a tavola calda for lunch and a gelateria saved into the phone. Of course, the phone died. Luckily Siena is not all that big, we memorised the names of the places and both names were recognised by passers-by and we were pointed in the right directions. So old school! The second one was Kopa kabana, with very useful doorsteps right next door.

The light was slowing going and Siena was saying goodbye.

The panic of a photographer: light is going and there are so many doors left.

I could hear this one calling.
