To set the scene: It’s a hot July day in Rome, you take a shortcut to a newly discovered gelato place and they just keep coming.

The place is my usual location when in Rome, Monteverde. I posted several shutters from around here already, but they seem to be never-ending. And when I took a photo of one, I had to do it to another, and another, and now I have to show them all to you, even the not very successful ones. Only three of these I discovered on another day. Now I think I’m done, unless I enlarge my walking circle.

Of course, the shops must be closed or you can’t even see these. So this must have been Sunday. The images should depict what is going on in the shop when it’s open but sometimes they don’t really deliver.

The order is roughly from the most basic to the personal favourites. It’s up to you at what point you begin to enjoy them, if at all.

Easy for me to say. I can’t even draw a dog.

I agree with both you and dan here- the colors and concepts and much better than some of the graffiti we have in my town – the last door – flag colors – my fav

A wonderful way to liven up those boring shutters. There had to be at least one Italian flag in the bunch.
    Nice finds 🙂

    1. Thanks, Norm. All of these were taken in a very small area. I wonder if they can be found all over Rome.

  7. Those are fun When I see these or others like them, I always muse about the difference between street art and graffiti (if there is any and if so, what it is) and the difference between the person owning the structure so decorated wanted the art or the artist just putting it there. If wanted, did the owner do the art or hire someone or offer his/her door/shutter as a free canvas to an artist s/he admired or…how does one find a street artist to decorate your shutter/door? Food for thought.

    1. Thanks, Janet. I guess it depends. I’d say most of these, which are all in the same couple of streets, are by the same artist and are commissioned. But amore says there are similar ones all over the city. Must be a little industry going on. For sure it beats plain or spotted shutters.

The shutters with Lupin’s characters are my favourite ones. They brought out awesome childhood memories. 😍

    1. Thank you, Surply. 🙂 Only a few minutes ago amore explained to me about him. I thought it was Freddy Mercury. 😀 In Slovenia either we didn’t know him at all when I was growing up, or just I’m not familiar with him.

    1. Thanks, Scooj. 🙂 I can just imagine the possibilities… Btw, there has been a swastika on our primary school in our little Tuscan town for at least 4 years now. You can access it without breaking in. I think I might just write a public appeal to street artists to raid and transform it. I wish it were that easy. I’d draw a four-leaf clover over it but I don’t trust my skills.

That is really not good. I like the idea of transforming a swastika into something peaceful. Like Banksy’s flowers coming out of the end of a rifle.
