Follow your heart

I tend to listen to the signs and follow my heart. So far, so good, said the man falling from the sky.

First, one hundred words on how I’m not above digging for signs:

Somebody must have thrown a pack of cards through a car window. They lay scattered by the road. One is by itself, turned upside down. I keep passing it daily. When I finally look – because of course I do – it is Jack of Hearts.

Months later I see one card still there. Crumbled, eaten away by time, barely discernible. Upside down. Only two bigger pieces remain, nail-size. I view them sceptically – could the other side reveal anything else but blank space? Does rust truly never sleep?

The first piece is turned:

I take the diamonds.

The second follows:

All four.

The green link above takes you to a story on Joan Baez and her song Diamonds and Rust on my first blog. It is supposedly about a certain Nobel prize winner. You can learn how she, in ripe age, answers her dilemma when offered diamonds and rust.

As for me, I now have a Jack of Hearts, a Four of Diamonds (which I’ll take for bestia’s paws) and… let’s see… what is blinking over there?

This is how we went to Santa Susanna English library when they had a book sale. Now I learn (from Sara, thank you!) that I could view not only Saint Theresa and her ecstasy in Santa Maria della Vittoria church right there but also The Dream of Saint Joseph. Next time, promise.

But what if I found this CD as a sign for YOU who are reading this right now? In this case you need to listen to some Gigi! Here is the first song off this CD, with lyrics. Just beware, it’s in Neapolitan dialect.  (OH, oh oh! Maybe this is a sign! Booked a ticket yet?) 😉

I’m now listening to Diamonds and Rust. I’d forgotten about it. Used to play it all the time.

    1. Yeah, Helen, that was the idea. 🙂 I was listening to Joan just earlier. Now Donna Summer. His request. 😀

    1. Oh, Sara, I’m glad to help you learn something new. I have a feeling that it happens all the time with Rome. It hides so many wonders.

    1. Indeed I am, but not a methodical or informed one. I just love what I hear, you know? “Cinnamon Girl” especially.
